NEDCC Appoints John H. Ott as Interim Executive Director

John H. Ott has been appointed Interim Executive Director of the Northeast Document Conservation Center following Ann Russell's recent retirement after 30 years at the Center.

Mr. Ott previously served as Executive Director of the Scottish Rite Masonic National Heritage Museum and Library for eight years, retiring in 2007. Under his guidance, the National Heritage Museum became one of this country’s most innovative museums for exhibitions and research on America’s history and culture. During his 37-year museum career he also served as Executive Director at Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield, Massachusetts; the Atlanta Historical Society in Atlanta, Georgia; and the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Ott has been a leader in integrating museum institutions into their local community and was recognized by Independent Sector in 1991 as one of the most innovative non-profit museum directors for his leadership skills.

As Interim Executive Director at NEDCC, Mr. Ott will help guide the Center through the transition period and oversee the launch of a national search for a permanent director.

The Northeast Document Conservation Center is one of the largest nonprofit, regional conservation centers in the United States specializing in the preservation of paper-based materials for libraries, archives, museums, and other collections-holding institutions as well as private collections. The Center has served thousands of cultural institutions through its laboratory services, treating some of the nation’s most significant historic materials. NEDCC’s Field Service department provides consulting services and educational programs to institutions across the country. The Center’s Web site has become an invaluable source of preservation information for the United States and beyond.
